Hiatus and Writer Sponsorship (Meta Post)

I’ve thought about it for a while and I know it might be tough to hear but I’m deciding to go on hiatus starting after this Saturday. This doesn’t mean I won’t be writing, however. I am taking hiatus from short story and poetry writing so I can focus on writing my novel. I didn’t want to keep writing short stories with the novel hanging over my head and I really wanted to commit to this novel idea 100%. I will be back blogging short stories and poetry after I am done with the writing and editing process (whenever that maybe). From time to time, I will post progress on my novel an I might even post a poem or short story on weeks that I get really bogged down by writer’s block.

But I don’t want Writings By Ender to become a dead site. I would regret it as much as not finishing the novel. So I am doing what I will be calling a “Writer Sponsorship.” What’s that? The one writer I decide to sponsor under Writings By Ender will be responsible for writing content for the blog. I will expect the sponsored writer to come up with short stories no shorter than 2000 words in length at least every two weeks. In return the sponsored writer will be able to have their writing reach a following of about 10,000(and counting) people and a portion of any ad revenue (I don’t make any revenue now but the site is still growing and ad revenue is a possibility).

Are you interested? Good. Here’s what I’ll need from you:

  • A brief letter talking about your life and your writing
  • A list of your 10 most recent short story publications with genre. (Applicants without publications are more than welcome to apply!)
  • Any writing awards (If not applicable, that’s still fine
  • One sample of your best work (Please use .pdf or .docx)

All applications are to be sent to Austinlamarwiggins@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and interest,

Austin L. Wiggins

  1. I wish you the best with your novel. I’d apply for the sponsorship but I got back into blogging this month after six years away in order to jump start my own novel. Writing every day is easier when I interact with other creativity. If you get stuck drop me a line.

  2. All the best on your hiatus. Just started following your blog, and will continue to do so. Hoping to read a great diversity of interesting work here. Just started my own blog, and I find it’s taking a lot of time from me, in addition to writing a novel of my own. Wish you all the best.

    1. It’s a good plan and I know that other blogger/novelists do it. But I’m not a big fan of snippets from a work-in-progress. I actually don’t like they idea at all. I prefer to keep the process mostly to myself (including editing), and debut it all together.
